She is an indigene of Borno State, and her vision is tailored towards helping the down-trodden, breaking the vicious circle of illiteracy and bridging the gap between diverse religious/ tribal segregation.

Mrs. Doris P. Yaro, the recipient of the President’s NYSC Honours Award for humanitarian efforts, started what later became GWCI in 1999, during her National Youth service, in faraway Kaduna state. In contributing to the improvement of the quality of life in Rido village, Kaduna, she mobilized funds and procured necessary materials with which she organized training for them in various skills. To ensure that these ventures were sustained after her departure, she established a cooperative society for the women.
